    Coast Guard Band will perform patriotic music concert Feb. 3

    New London — The Coast Guard Band will perform a concert of patriotic music to honor President’s Day and African American History Month on Feb. 3, 2 p.m., in Leamy Concert Hall at the Coast Guard Academy.

    “A Movement for Rosa” remembers the life of civil rights heroine Rosa Parks. Soprano soloist Musician First Class Megan Weikleenget sings a set of gospel songs, “Eye of the Sparrow,” “Amazing Grace,” “The Sweet By and By” and “Shall We Gather at the River.” The band will perform music of the Civil War bands, selections from Morton Gould’s American Ballads, and Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait.” Chief Warrant Officer Richard Wyman conducts the march “Men of Ohio” and “Rushmore.” 

    This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. Leamy Concert Hall is handicapped accessible.
