Local sailors recognized as Red Cross 'community heroes'

Groton — Two local sailors were recognized by the American Red Cross at its 2013 Community Heroes of Connecticut Breakfast Friday, April 12.

The breakfast honors military and civilian personnel for their heroic acts and humanitarian efforts.

Aviation Electronics Technician Third Class Charles Barlow, a former student at the Naval Submarine School, received an award for fighting a fire on a passenger bus and helping the driver evacuate the people on board. The school’s command master chief accepted the award because Barlow has transferred to his first assignment in Hawaii.

Machinist’s Mate First Class Jared Bradovich, who serves on the USS Annapolis (SSN 760), was recognized for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an employee of Newport News Shipbuilding on Nov. 2 when the submarine was at Electric Boat for maintenance.
