The Public Library of New London and New London Veterans Affairs are partnering to host the first veteran resource fair, which will be held in the community room at the library on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The plan is for this to become an annual affair. All veterans and active duty military are invited to attend and get the latest information from various veteran service organizations in attendance.

New London Veteran Affairs is urging all area veterans to register with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans are not automatically registered with the VA for benefits just because they served. Veterans must register to learn what VA benefits they qualify for. Veterans are advised not to wait until a service connected illness or injury requires them to seek the services of the VA. On Aug. 18, New London Veterans Affairs will be conducting a Connecticut Wartime Medal Ceremony. The ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Veterans Free Day at Ocean Beach Park. To qualify for the medal, veterans are required to have served during a wartime period, received an honorable discharge and have been a resident of Connecticut during the period served. Call (860) 440-6691 for an application.
