UPDATED: Navy awards contract worth more than a half-billion dollars to Electric Boat

Groton ―U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Second District) announced Tuesday that the Navy has awarded Electric Boat a $532 million contract to provide lead yard support, development studies and design efforts for Virginia-class submarines.

With potential modifications, the contract could bring $813 million in work to Electric Boat over the next year.

In a press release announcing the contract Courtney who is the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee on Seapower and Projection Forces, said the contract represents additional investment on top of a previously awarded contract in 2019, and allows EB to maintain development efforts on Virginia-class submarines.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, added he was “extremely pleased that the U.S. Navy has awarded this $532 million contract to Electric Boat and made another significant investment in Connecticut’s skilled workforce and defense manufacturing industry. Submarines are at the core of our commitment to national defense in a deeply dangerous world and Electric Boat has shown time and again that they are capable of handling this incredibly important work.”
