The Wife

All hail Glenn Close! Her character here — Joan Castleman, the reserved, quietly supportive wife of a famous writer — keeps things close to the vest in many ways. But Close expresses so much with a look, a gesture, a flicker of her lip or a flash of her eyes that Joan becomes a constant source of fascination for viewers. When Close and Jonathan Pryce, playing her rather pompous spouse, are on screen, “The Wife” is captivating. When they are off screen, though, “The Wife” becomes rather mundane. Fortunately, there is enough Close and Pryce to make this drama well worth seeing.
