Garde hosts Manhattan Short
The Garde Arts Center was a movie palace at one time, so maybe it’s karma that some of its most popular annual events are film-related. There is the winter movie series, plus the Banff film world tour that comes to the New London site.
And, of course, the Manhattan Short event that plays the Garde, along with hundreds of other venues around the world.
Here’s the deal: Manhattan Short runs on more than 500 cinemas on six continents over the course of one week. The finalist films that were selected by Manhattan Short are screened in each location — and they automatically become qualified for next year’s Oscars.
The viewers vote on which they think is the best. You can be a viewer/voter Sunday at the Garde.
Manhattan Short, 3 p.m. Sunday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $15; gardearts.org.
