‘Live Lunch Break’ Flashback - Jim Lampos
On Thursday’s edition of “Live Lunch Break,” guitarist/vocalist Jim Lampos played an eight-song set that indelibly established his skills as a songwriter of the highest order. For one thing, his latest and superb album, “Entangled States,” is a haunting and evocative recording. The tunes he played from the CD came off in sparkling fashion. On “Entangled States,” Lampos boldly used a lot of spare piano/vocal tracks that feature old pal Joel Diamond on keyboards. At “Lunch Break,” Lampos performed the material with his guitar — and the songs worked just as wonderfully. It’s a fun and rewarding exercise in compare and contrast, then, to re-watch “Lunch Break” and then treat yourself to a listen-through of the album. It’s easy enough to do; we archive all of our “Live Lunch Break” episodes at theday.com/livelunch. Oh, and you’ll need to buy the album. It’s well worth it.
