Eastern Connecticut Ballet presents "Ballet Spooktacular"

Eastern Connecticut Ballet’s “Ballet Spooktacular” has become a veritable holiday tradition. And why not? With this show, staged at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, you get some wonderful choreography and dancing, along with seasonally appropriate characters — glow-in-the-dark skeletons romping about and graceful ghosts twirling by. Kids in the audience are invited to get into the, uh, spirit by wearing a costume to the show and to trick or treat afterward inside the theater. They can get their photos taken with the dancers, too.

“Ballet Spooktacular,” which is performed in matinees this weekend, is choreographed by ECB Artistic Director Gloria Govrin and Associate Director Krystin Dixon. The pieces include “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” with a score that became famous in Disney’s “Fantasia”; “Dancing Bones”; and “Halloween Waltz,” set to the music of Camille Saint-Saens.

These performances often sell out, so call ahead.

“Ballet Spooktacular,” 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $20 adults, $14 ages 12 and under; 1-877-503-1286.
