33 Golden Street hosts an impressive lineup Saturday with Paul Bergmann opening
With a lulling baritone and introspective way of musical narrative that suggests David Sylvian if he'd lived on Townes Van Zandt's front porch, curled up at night for warmth next to an old hound, Paul Bergmann is a terrific songwriter. Headquartered in northwestern Massachusetts, Bergmann and his band Fair Moans are on the road behind his confessional, observational and insidiously hooky "Make It Yourself at Home" album.
They hit New London Saturday for a gig at 33 Golden Street, opening a strong bill that includes the Quahogs from Providence and, headlining, our own Daphne Lee Martin, whose 2018 release, "Scared Fearless," is the finest in her inspired and ambitious catalog.
Daphne Lee Martin, 9 p.m. Saturday, 33 Golden Street, 33 Golden St., New London; $5; (860) 443-1193.
