Folk-pop trio the Sweet Remains plays the Kate Thursday.

    The Sweet Remains (Contributed)

Harmony-pop trio the Sweet Remains return to the Katherine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center tonight — a venue where they've established an affectionate rapport with local audiences that makes it seem like the band lives just down the street and will happily loan you their lawnmower.

As for their sound, each member of the trio — Rich Price, Greg Naughton and Brian Chartrand — recently had their respective Ancestry/DNA tests done, and the results are revealing. Turns out, they're all curiously related to members of Firefall, Crosby, Stills & Nash, America, Simon & Garfunkel and, yes, the Little River Band.

That explains a lot! And they write their own memorable tunes focused on tight, soothing vocal blends; yearning, heartfelt lyrics; and melodies you could pour out of a jar of organic honey. Their latest album is called, appropriately enough, "Music Fills the Space." Oh, and don't forget to return the lawnmower.

The Sweet Remains, 7:30 tonight, Katherine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $33; thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
