Jake Hunsinger plays Knick Tap Room Thursday

It's always fun when a young band comes up with a helpful descriptive of their own music that goes beyond "blues-rock" or "folk-pop" or "shoegaze-shred" — terms that have been employed literally more times than there are germs.

Kudos, then, to Jake Hunsinger, a singer-songwriter out of Providence playing what he calls "powerhouse Americana." The phrase summoned an idea in my head of what he and his Rock Bottom Band might sound like, so I gave a listen to the 2019 "Jake Hunsinger" EP and a recent single titled "Lady of the Wild Moor."

You know what? He/they DO play powerhouse Americana! See and hear for yourself tonight when Hunsinger appears solo in the Tap Room of the Knickerbocker Music Center in Westerly.

Jake Hunsinger, 8 tonight, Tap Room, Knickerbocker Music Center, 35 Railroad Ave., Westerly; free; www.knickmusiccenter.com, (401) 315-5070.
