Marc Cohn is in concert at the Kate

American pop/folk singer Marc Cohn (Robert E. Klein, Invision/AP)

I love it when stars have a sense of humor about themselves.

In November, Pete Davidson did a mock music video for “Saturday Night Live” making fun of Staten Island, which is where he grew up. It was to the tune of “Walking in Memphis.”

Mid-song, Marc Cohn (singer, pianist and writer of “Walking in Memphis”) popped up onscreen to say, on a phone call, “No, I don’t want to be in a parody of my own song. ... What do you mean I’m already in it?”

Cut to Cohn wearing an “I Heart Staten Island” sweatshirt and singing with Davidson.

Cohn is back performing the original “Walking in Memphis” now that he’s out on tour, and he’ll be in concert Friday and Saturday at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. While “Memphis” might be his biggest hit, Cohn has a cache of really wonderful songs. So if you’ve been contemplating going to his Kate gig but haven’t bought tickets, just know that Cohn is terrific in concert.

Marc Cohn, 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $68, $75; (860) 510-0453.
