Songwriter Jimmy Webb plays The Kate Friday

    Jimmy Webb (Sasa Tkalcan)

Songwriter Jimmy Webb, who might be thought of as, well, the Jimmy Webb of songwriters, returns Friday to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

If you're a fan of his work — which includes "Galveston," "Wichita Lineman," "Up, Up and Away," "MacArthur Park," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "The Highwayman," "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress," "Honey Come Back" and "All I Know" — a Webb concert is called "Goosebump Overdose."

Not only will each tune Webb sings spin you off into your own processional of memories, but he's also a gifted and funny raconteur who'll provide additional context and history to the experience.

Jimmy Webb, 8 p.m. Friday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $50; www.thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
