Norwich Arts Center holds fundraiser for Conn. Blues

The Norwich Arts Center is sponsoring a fundraising event at 3 p.m. Sunday for the Connecticut Blues Society’s solo/duo winning artist Dr. James Limerick Kerr.

Kerr will be representing Connecticut at the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis at the end of the month. He will be competing against other blues artists from around the world.

Kerr is a resonator steel guitarist, classical guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and educator who studied jazz as an undergraduate, received a master’s in music education, and then went on to earn his doctorate in classical guitar performance. His solo performances incorporate gospel blues, bluegrass, and Delta blues, along with original compositions for the resonator steel guitar (Dobro).

Kerr is an associate in the music performance faculty at Columbia University, where he teaches applied classical and bluegrass guitar and directs the Bluegrass Ensemble.

He will perform for two hours on Sunday, and the ticket/donation is $10. For more details and to register your donation, go to www.norwicharts.org.
