    What we think about work

Most American workers are satisfied with their jobs, but nearly two in three have strong doubts about being able to eventually stop working and retire, according to a recent StrategyOne public opinion survey of 1,043 Americans, including 613 who work either full- or part-time.

Of the employed who were surveyed, 82 percent describe themselves as satisfied with their jobs and report they get satisfaction from their work (80 percent). But this rosy picture of the workplace belies underlying concerns, many related to the unsettled economy.

Sixty-four percent believe that they won't ever be able to stop working and retire; 46 percent have had their wages or salaries reduced, and 44 percent worry about losing their jobs. While at the office, 40 percent admit to surfing the web, and 29 percent say they spend at least an hour of their day using social media sites. What they don't care to do when at work is go to meetings: 49 percent agree with the following statement: "Most meetings that I go to at the company where I work are a waste of time."
