AUBURN, Maine (AP) — A Connecticut man hired to clear rodents out of a building at a Maine chicken farm has been indicted on a manslaughter charge in connection with the shooting death of a farm worker.

An Androscoggin County grand jury on Wednesday handed up an indictment against 44-year-old Michael Warbin, of Franklin, Conn.

Authorities say Warbin shot 57-year-old Manuel Adame on Aug. 19 with a .22 caliber rifle he was using to kill rodents inside the 500-foot long chicken barn at Moark Egg Farms in Turner.

Investigators say Warbin was at one end of the poorly lit building, with Adame at the other.

Prosecutors have said they think the death was accidental, but someone can be charged with manslaughter if they act with "reckless criminal negligence."

Warbin could not be reached.
