    John F. 'Jack' Engelhart, 83 Branford

    John F. "Jack" Engelhart, 83, of Branford, formerly of Wallingford, died in Middletown on May 6. He was the husband of the late Patricia Plumb Engelhart. He was born in New Haven on Jan. 5, 1927, son of the late Frederick and Mae McDermott Engelhart. He was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, where he was a hockey player, and he received athletic scholarships to the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois, which he attended.

    He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant and also served in the Merchant Marines. In addition, he had worked for many years as a sales representative for Swan Engraving in Bridgeport until retiring in 1992. An avid hockey fan, he could often be found at the New Haven Arena and later the New Haven Coliseum with all the other "rink rats."

    He is survived by three sons, Peter Engelhart of New Haven, Paul Engelhart of Wallingford, and David Engelhart of Palm Coast, Florida. He was predeceased by his sister Ann "Shirley" Larson.

    A funeral service was held on May 11 at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, Branford. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1261 South Main St., Plantsville, CT 06479.
