    Samuel J. 'Sammy' Alsback, 38 Deep River

    Samuel J. "Sammy" Alsback, 38, of Deep River, died surrounded by his loving family and friends at Yale-New Haven Hospital on June 23. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife Melissa Symonds-Alsback and his extraordinary daughters Katie and Chloe. He worked as a manager at Shore Discount Liquors II in Clinton. He was also an avid softball player, member and deacon of the Deep River Congregational Church, and an active volunteer in many organizations, particularly After the Storm. Everyone appreciated his marvelous sense of humor, although he will be most remembered for his loving, selfless dedication to his daughters and wife. He will be long cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.

    Besides his wife and daughters, he is survived by his mother Constance (McCoid) Alsback of Bradenton, Florida; his sisters Karen Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cheryl Farino of Alexandria, Virginia, Gail Leon of Simsbury, and Jennifer Alsback of Bradenton, Florida; and his brother Kenneth Alsback of Old Saybrook. He was predeceased by his father Samuel J. Alsback.

    Funeral services were held at the Deep River Congregational Church in Deep River on June 27. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sammy Alsback Memorial Fund, c/o Liberty Bank, 151 Main St., Deep River, CT 06417. The Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook, was in charge of arrangements.
