    Dorant Torelli, 99, Branford

Dorant Torelli of Branford, died July 13, 2011 at the Talmadge Park Health Care Center in East Haven. He was born in Branford on Feb. 8, 1912, son of the late Peter and Maria Torelli. Mr. Torelli lived a long, enjoyable life, immersed in what he loved best, designing, modeling, and sculpting.

The arts were his greatest fascination. Because of his creational ability, he was hired by the renowned silver company, International Silver in Meriden, where he quickly rose to be top designer and modeler, producing a number of pieces in sterling silver. One particular design, his Chafing Dish, was so impressive that the Kennedy Administration chose it for many of their White House state dinners. The International Silver Company said it was their masterpiece, and they thought so highly of this particular design that they placed it as the centerpiece in their storied showroom and also on the cover of their brochure.

In sports, Mr. Torelli's interest focused on baseball and golf, driven in part by his fascination with the play of Tiger Woods.

Mr. Torelli is survived by a brother, Dino Torelli of Branford. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Anthony Torelli, and two sisters, Lena Torelli and Condita Davidson.

There are no services. Private burial will take place in the family plot in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, Branford, is in charge arrangements. See obit @ www.wsclancy.com.
