    William G. (Bill) Meyers, 89, North Haven

    William G. (Bill) Meyers, 89, of North Haven, died peacefully with his family by his side on June 2 at Smilow Hospital after a brief illness. He will be remembered by the many who cared for him as a lovely man who never complained and was admired for his strength and determination to fight until the end. William was the husband of 25 years to his first wife, the late Shirley Woodruff Meyers, and the husband of 25 years to his second wife, the late Marion Nolan Meyers. He was born in West Haven on Sept. 14, 1922, son of the late Ethel Stevens Meyers Borkowski and William C. Meyers. William attended Randolph Macon Military Academy in Front Royal, Virginia, and graduated from Georgia Military College in June 1942 with a BS degree. 

    William served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the 9th Air Force Fighters Squadron Hell Hawks and received six oak clusters for the air offensive of Europe, Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland from 1943 to 1945.  William was a member of the Hell Hawks 365th Fighter Group Association and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation in September 2010 from the American Warrior Day of Honor. 

    William was a 50 year member of the Corinthian Lodge No. 103 of North Haven and was a 32nd degree Mason.  He had also been employed in the electrical field from 1951 to 1987.  He was a member of Local No. 90 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was an electrical contractor before retiring in 1987 as a project manager and superintendent for several local electrical contractors, including Diamond Electrical Company, Johnson Electrical Company, and Jacobson Electric Company. 

    He is survived by two children, to whom he was devoted, Garrett (Gary) Meyers of Florida and Karen Meyers O’Sullivan and her husband Sonny, also of Florida. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Molly, Jesse, Patrick, and Garrett, all of Florida; five great-grandchildren, Hayden, Caleb, Taj, Alyssa, and Mallory, all of Florida; a stepson, Sean (Bruce) Nolan of California; a stepdaughter, Joan Nolan Jurado of Mexico; triplet step-grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, and Marion Nolan of California; and his long time girlfriend, Rosemarie Riccitelli and her family of East Haven. He was predeceased by his grandson Brett; his brother, Stevens Slade Meyers; and his sister, Virginia Meyers Hansell. 

    Funeral services, officiated by The Rev. Edward Cornell, will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, on Friday, June 8, at 11 a.m., followed by burial with full military honors in All Saints Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be Thursday, June 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service to be conducted at 7 p.m.  Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Smilow Hospital, P.O.
