Bernice Lyke Bassett, 75, of North Haven, formerly of West Haven, died peacefully on July 25 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, with her loving daughter by her side.  Bernice was born in New Haven on June 30, 1937, daughter of the late John and Claire Weinberg Lyke. She had worked for Northeast Electronics for many years until her retirement.  She was also a member of the West Haven Irish American Club, was an avid reader, and loved her two cats, Dusty and Me Too. 

She is survived by her children, Rick Bassett and his wife Jennifer of North Haven, Daniel Bassett and his wife Myrna of Ashford, and Sherri Hicks and her husband David of New Haven.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Katie, Julie, Adam, Desiree, Justin, and Jessica Bassett; her sister, Lorraine Hayden and Lorraine’s husband Ira of North Haven; a brother, Jack Lyke and his wife Linda of Northford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, George Lyke and Eugene (Jr.) Lyke. 

Funeral services, officiated by The Rev. Matthew Lincoln, will be conducted at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, on Monday, July 30, at 7 p.m.  Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m.  Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Haven Rotary Club, P.O. Box 202, North Haven, CT 06473, which will be donated to The Polar Plunge (started by Bernice’s son Rick when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer).
