    Leo S. Maniatty, 80, Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Chicopee, Massachusetts

    Leo S. Maniatty, 80, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Chicopee, Massachusetts, died Nov. 10 at Yale-New Haven Hospital while visiting family in Connecticut. He was the husband of the late Claire (George) Maniatty, who predeceased him on Nov. 28, 2008. Leo was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on Sept. 30, 1932, son of the late Steven P. and Susan (Samaras) Maniatty. He graduated from Greenfield High School and in 1952 from Nichols College. Leo had been the president and co-owner of Ding Dong Cart Inc., a mobile ice cream firm, with his wife Claire who co-founded the company with him in 1958. They later sold the firm to International Ice Cream Corp in 1983. Leo was also was the president of the Christopher Charles Real Estate Company. 

    For 14 years, Leo served on the board of trustees at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Chicopee, Massachusetts, serving eight years as vice president and six years as president. He was a former corporator of the Chicopee Savings Bank, a former director of the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the City of Chicopee Board of Aldermen, and a former member of the board of trustees of Springfield Technical Community College, appointed by Governor King of Massachusetts from 1982 to 1987. He was also the 1992 recipient of the Boston Laity Award from Bishop Methodios of the Greek Orthodox Church.

    He is survived by his beloved daughter Linda C. Maniatty and his six-year-old grandson Matthew S. Maniatty, both of Madison. He is also survived by three brothers, Herm Maniatty and his wife Connie of Greenfield, Massachusetts, Christopher Maniatty of Greenfield, Massachusetts, and Perry Maniatty of Saco, Maine, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his only sister, Anne Maniatty, and eight brothers, Connie, Arthur, John, Philo, George, Ash, Michael, and Peter Maniatty.

    At the request of the deceased, private funeral services and burial will take place at the convenience of the family.  Donations may be made to the Michael J.
