Gilbert L. Benham, 84, of Hamden, died on March 15 after his brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease and a recent stroke. He was the husband of the late Eva Robertson Benham. Gil was born in New Haven on Sept. 10, 1928, son of the late Lester Merwin and Frances Smith Benham.

He is survived by a daughter, Leslie B. Kohnke of West Hartford; two grandchildren, James M. Kohnke and Dora E. Kohnke, both of West Hartford; a sister, Jane B. Dutton and her husband Thomas of Florence, Vermont; a brother, Henry C. Benham and his wife Mary Ann of Madison; a nephew, Ron Benham (who resided with Gil); and many other nieces, nephews, and grandnephews.

Friends are invited to visit with Gil’s family on Monday, March 18, from 5 to 7 p.m., at. 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. His funeral service was held on March 19 at Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, Hamden, followed by a burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.
