    James Corcoran, 78, Guilford

    James Corcoran, 78, of Guilford, died peacefully on March 22.  He was the husband of the late Ann Corcoran. Jim was born on September 11, 1934 and grew up in Branford. In 1962, he moved to Guilford with his wife Ann. Jim and Ann celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just prior to her death in 2010, and afterwards, he missed her every day. 

    Jim loved traveling with Ann to faraway places, including Alaska, and enjoyed raising Irish Setters and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.  He had served on the destroyer USS William M. Wood with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After completing his Navy duty, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and later returned to Connecticut to marry Ann and raise his two sons.

    Jim had been a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors for many years. He had also worked for Commercial Union and Factory Mutual Insurance Companies before accepting a position with the State of Connecticut’s Public Safety Department. He was active in the Guilford Little League. 

    He is survived by his son Todd of Killingworth, his son Chris of Madison, and his daughter-in-law Jennifer of Madison. He is also survived by his four loving granddaughters, Paige, Amanda, Alexandra, and Amy.

    Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, at 1 p.m., at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford, followed by burial in Nut Plains Cemetery, Nut Plains Rd., Guilford.  The Guilford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
