    Alan Everett Hubbard, 76, Guilford

Alan Everett Hubbard, of Guilford, husband of 50 years to Fernn Carlson Hubbard, died at home on May 19, his 76th birthday.  Alan was born in New Haven, son of the late Margaret Currier Hubbard and Kenneth Sprague Hubbard.  He graduated from Hillhouse High School and went on to graduate from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a BS in math.  While attending WVWC, he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Alan continued his education by earning a BS in architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design.

After being an associate with Granberry Cash Associates for several years, Alan became the architect for the City of New Haven’s Engineering Department.

In his retirement, Alan was able to enjoy more time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, bridge, gardening, travel, and especially the New York Yankees.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Elisabeth Ann VanDerMaelen and her husband, Steven of Guilford, and Christina Hubbard Roberts and her husband Andrew of Wallingford, Pennsylvania; his daughter-in-law Stacey Doyle Hubbard of Guilford; and his mother-in-law Beatrice Fenn Carlson of Naugatuck. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily and Erik VanDerMaelen, Alexander and Madeline Roberts, and Cameron Hubbard. He was predeceased by his son Alan Carlson (Carl) Hubbard.

A memorial service was held at the First Congregational Church of Guilford.  Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends support the “Closer To Free” bike ride.  (Find “Carl’s Crusaders Team” with Stacey Hubbard as the team leader at rideclosertofree.org.) The Hawley Lincoln Memorial, Guilford, is in charge of arrangements.
