Ann M. Byrne Zimmer, 80, of North Branford, beloved wife of the late George K. Zimmer, died peacefully Sept. 24 at the Smilow Cancer Center at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 19, 1933 in New Haven to the late John and Anna Mooney Byrne

She was a retired supervisor for the Southern New England Telephone Company, where she worked for 36 years.

Mrs. Zimmer was an active member of the North Branford Women’s Club and former member of the Registrar of Voters for the Town of North Branford. She was a loving aunt, great aunt, and sister-in-law.

Ann is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret Murphy; her nieces Linda Murphy, Susan and her husband Arthur Pfaff, and Ann and her husband David Spillane; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother William E. Murphy, Jr.; and a niece, Carolyn DiBuccio.

The funeral will leave from the Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Road, North Branford, Monday, Sept. 30 at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at St. Augustine Church, North Branford, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Sunday, Sept. 29 from 4-7 p.m. Donations in Ann’s memory may be made to Home Alliance for Animals, Inc., 88 Morse Place, New Haven, CT 06512.
