Louise Bianchini Giordano, 85, Branford, formerly of Guilford

Louise Bianchini Giordano, 85, of Branford, formerly of Guilford, died Oct. 2 at the Madison House. Louise was born June 21, 1928 in Stony Creek to the late Galliano and Teresa Bianchini. She was proud to say that she was born on “the first day of summer, longest day of the year.”

Louise lived in Italy throughout first grade, and was a diligent student upon returning to Stony Creek, earning a full scholarship to Boston University in 1946. She began working as an engineer’s assistant for Southern New England Telephone Company while continuing to take courses. In 1953, she married and moved to Washington, D.C., where she started a family and became very involved in politics with her husband. She also volunteered in many clubs, including The Lawyers’ Wives.

In 1971, she moved to Guilford with her three daughters, joined the Newcomers Club, and began volunteering once again. She taught C.C.D. at St. George Church, and was a chaperone on many trips, and she was also involved with the Girl Scouts. In 1975, at age 47, she returned to college, the University of New Haven, to finish her education. That same year, she completed her A.S. in Journalism, and in 1977 she received a B.A. in English and History and graduated Magna Cum Laude from New Haven University. One of the eldest students, her classmates looked up to her for advice and guidance. In 1978, she received her master’s degree in history, and began substitute teaching.

In Fall 1985, she began teaching English at Branford High School. Her students all called her Mrs. G, they loved her and would still walk up to greet Mrs. G on the street.

In Dec. 1995, she moved to Del Ray Beach, Florida and became editor of her condo newspaper. She belonged to Book Worms, bridge clubs, Women’s Club, and had an extensive social life at her condominium complex. In Summer 2006, she returned once again to Connecticut.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Madison House and Meig’s Unit for the great care and love they provided to Louise for the past four years, and also Kevin and Maryanne of Physiotherapy Associates.

She is survived by three daughters, Pam Giordano of Branford, Camille Ackerman of Madison, and Tamara Giordano of Boca Raton, Florida; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Nikolas Ackerman, who referred to her fondly as “Lulu.” She was predeceased by her sister Tina Sonzoni.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. in St. Therese Church, 109 Leetes Island Rd, Branford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, St. Therese Church, 109 Leetes Island Rd, Branford, CT 06405 or CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405.  The Guilford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
