Helen R. Galpin Smith, 80, of North Haven, beloved wife of 62 years to Richard I. Smith, died Sept. 29 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. Helen was born July 1, 1933 in Waterbury to the late Harold B. and Anna Rowe Galpin. She resided in North Haven since 1960.

Helen worked as a bookkeeper, window decorator and in sales for the former Grossman Dry Goods, Dixwell Ave, Hamden, and was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, North Haven.

She is survived by her sons Richard and his wife Linda Smith and Marc and his wife Annlie Smith; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Esposito.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service Thursday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Faith United Methodist Church, 81 Clintonville Rd., North Haven. Interment will be private and at the convenience the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA. The North Haven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
