Peter J. Lougal, 68, East Haven

Peter J. Lougal, 68, of East Haven, beloved husband of Jan Alea Lougal, died Oct. 9 at the St. Raphael Campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Peter was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, and worked as a pipe fitter and insulator for Local 33 until his retirement.

After his retirement from Local 33, he worked as a security guard for East Haven High School, and touched the lives of many students with his unique sense of humor and his unparalleled, witty, nature. Peter was the former chairman of the Town of East Haven Republican Town Committee, former chairman of the Town of East Haven Police Commission and former chairman of the Town of East Haven Civil Service Commission.

Peter was an avid sports fan, and rooted for the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. He was an exuberant storyteller, a once-in-a-lifetime chronicler, and known for his entertaining tales around a dinner table. It did not matter if you had known Peter for two minutes, two hours, or 20 years, those who have had conversations with this charismatic gentleman will remember him for ages, and he will live on through all of those who share his stories. Of all aspects of friendship, Peter valued loyalty as the most important, and anyone who had the privilege to call him a friend experienced immense loyalty and friendship in return. He was a lifelong brother. To Peter, creating a strong family structure would be his ultimate legacy. He loved, adored, and cherished his family. The most important thing to him was the love and respect of his family. Peter was a son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Steven Lougal of East Haven and Scott Lougal and his wife Tricia of Branford; his daughter Tamara Speer and her husband Stanley of East Haven; his grandchildren Michael Speer and Lyndsey, Tabitha, Alexandria, Ainsley, Mason and Fischer Lougal; great-granddaughter Marlena; his aunt Viola Lougal of East Haven; and his nephew Greg Giltner. Peter was predeceased by his father John.

His funeral procession will leave the Porto Funeral Home, 234 Foxon Rd.
