    Helen Veronica Costigan, 93, Guilford

    Helen Veronica Costigan, 93, wife of the late William H. Costigan, died peacefully in her sleep Oct. 15 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was born July 21, 1920 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, to the late Edward and Helen Waudby.

    At age 15, Helen moved to Greenwich Village, New York, where she worked as a textile designer. During World War II, while her first husband was with the United States Navy, Helen worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” in Long Island Shipyard in New York, the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia, and the Oka-locka Shipyard in Florida. After the war they settled in Guilford to raise their family.

    She is survived by two sons, James and his wife Lori of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Joseph and his wife Debbie of Madison; her daughter Lynda (George) Giuffre and her husband Tom of Westbrook; five grandchildren, Christopher, Katherine, Jennifer and Johnathan George of Madison and John Giuffre of Westbrook. In addition to her late husband, she was predeceased by her first husband Edward J. George, with whom she had her three children.

    Graveside services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405.
