    Helen M. (Kampersal) Freeberg, 93, East Haven

    Helen M. (Kampersal) Freeberg, 93, of East Haven, wife of the late Arvid Freeberg, died peacefully Nov. 10. Helen was born Aug. 27, 1920 in Milford, Massachusetts to the late Rein and Mildred J. (Kairit) Kampersal. She grew up the oldest of ten children in the Braggville section of Holliston, Massachusetts on the Kampersal Dairy Farm. Helen graduated with honors from Holliston High School in 1938, and Bryant and Stratton Commercial School in 1940. She was the first woman to attend Pennsylvania State University for training in dairy pasteurization in 1940.

    Helen married Arvid in 1942, and they raised their family in East Haven, where they lived for more than 60 years. She was a proud retiree of the Upjohn Company where she worked as a financial manager for many years. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Haven, and brought joy to every day and every person she touched. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

    Helen is survived by one son, Rein C. Freeberg and his wife Laurel of Holliston, Massachusetts; four brothers, Richard Kampersal and his wife Elinor, Ernest Kampersal and his wife Frances, Donald Kampersal and his wife Mildred, and George Kampersal and his wife Mildred, all of Holliston, Massachusetts; one sister, Dorothy Kampersal of Framingham, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Andrew Freeberg, Kristen Freeberg, Karen Freeberg, Daniel Freeberg and Catherine Freeberg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, who predeceased her in 2010, Helen was predeceased by her son Alfred G. Freeberg, Ret. Col. USAF; daughter-in-law Breda A. (Flanagan) Freeberg; and her siblings Harold Kampersal, Elizabeth Ghelli, Alfred Kampersal, and Ernestine Anderson.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 5-8 p.m. at the Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St., Framingham, Massachusetts. Her funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. at Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Avenue, East Haven, with burial in East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven. Calling hours will also be held Friday, Nov. 15 from 10-11 a.m. at Clancy Funeral Home. Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home, Framingham, Massachusetts, and Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven, are in charge of arrangements.
