    Carole Connell Lerner, 78, Killingworth, formerly of Deep River

    Carole Connell Lerner, 78, of Killingworth, formerly of Deep River, died peacefully Nov. 23 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was born Nov. 15, 1935 in Washington D.C.

    She graduated from Washington Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia and went on to attend Florida Southern College where she became a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and acted as the sorority’s secretary. After college she became secretary for the United States Chamber of Commerce President. She also worked as secretary to the Chairman of the Board, Jack Straus, of Macy’s Corporation for several years in the early 1960’s.

    She moved to Deep River in 1965 where she raised her family and resided for 26 years before moving to Killingworth in 1991. She became an employee at Deep River Elementary and Mount Saint John School, where she also volunteered. In the early 1980’s she began working for Whelen Engineering, where she held several positions and did so for 28 years until her retirement in 2010.

    Friends and family alike remember her for her one of kind personality, easy-going nature and her wonderful smile right up to her passing. She loved all types of music, and was a huge sports fan, including her love for her beloved Washington Redskins. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

    The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff at Connecticut Hospice for their care during Carole’s stay. You are all angels.

    She is survived by her two sons, Christopher and his wife Krista of New Britain and Nicholas and his wife Mara of White Plains, New York; and grandson Luke. Visitation will be held Friday.
