Joseph Charles Canna, 82, of Northford died March 4 at the Smilow Cancer Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Lillian D’Elia Canna. Born in New Haven on Oct. 5, 1931, Joseph was the son of the late Gennaro and Elizabeth Carbone Cannavaciolo. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War and was decorated for fighting in three major battles. Joseph had worked at B.F. Goodrich Aerospace as the purchasing manager for 30 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the VFW and a parishioner of St. Monica Roman Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children Joseph E. Canna of Middletown, Stephen Canna and his wife Tea of Orange, Elizabeth Fabrizi and her husband Mark of Westbrook, and Gregory Canna and his wife April of Tolland.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated March 11 in St. Monica Church with military honors being rendered immediately following the Mass. Interment was private in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smilow Cancer Hospital, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508. The North Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
