    Louis Anthony Pepe, 87

    Branford

    Louis Anthony Pepe, 87, of Branford, died peacefully in his home on July 7. He was the husband of Clara Petela Pepe of Branford.

    He was the father of Gary Pepe (wife Linda) of East Haven, Richard Pepe (wife Kristin) of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Dianne Belanger (husband John) of Killingworth. He was the father-in-law of Valerie Pepe of Branford.

    He is survived by eight grandchildren, Lisa, David Jr., Jeffrey, Erica, Lexi, Heather, Steven, and Amanda. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son David Pepe and his brothers Father Mario Pepe and Augustus Pepe.

    Louis was born in Niantic on Dec. 6, 1926, a son of Pasquale and Louise Cipriani Pepe. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Okinawa Campaign. He was present at the ceremony when Japan formally surrendered. He then served in Tokyo for two months following Japan's surrender. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.

    Following the war, he worked as a power engineer for Pratt & Whitney for more than 20 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

    A Mass of Christian burial was held July 10 at St. Mary Church in Branford. Burial followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. There were no calling hours. The W.S.
