    College basketball roundup

    MEN

    No. 5 Pittsburgh 68, Texas 66

Pittsburgh finally found a way to beat Texas.

Of course it would happen at Madison Square Garden.

Ashton Gibbs scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half, and the Panthers hung on to beat the Longhorns Friday night, adding the 2K Sports Classic title to the two recent Big East tournament championships they also won at the iconic building in New York City.

    No. 1 Duke 110, Colgate 58

Nolan Smith scored 18 points, and Kyle Singler and Andre Dawkins each had 16 points to help Duke improve to 3-0.

Duke outscored Colgate (0-3) 27-9 during a 9 1/2-minute span, held the Raiders to one field goal in 6 1-2 minutes of the first half and extended its decade-long nonconference winning streak at Cameron Indoor Stadium to 80. Mike Krzyzewski earned victory No. 798 with the Blue Devils. They hit the 100-point mark for the first time this season and had little trouble winning their 13th straight game and 22nd in a row at Cameron.

    No. 7 Kansas 93, North Texas 60

    - Marcus Morris scored 10 points in the first 5 minutes after intermission, igniting a second-half stampede to help Kansas tie the team record for consecutive home wins at 62.

    Minnesota 72, No. 8 North Carolina 67

Blake Hoffarber scored 20 points, Ralph Sampson III and Trevor Mbakwe created havoc all over the court and Minnesota beat North Carolina in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament.

    No. 13 Illinois 80, Maryland 76

Demetri McCamey, D.J. Richardson and Tyler Griffey all hit three 3-pointers and No. 13 Illinois went outside for the lead and then held on in the third-place game of the 2K Sports Classic.

    No. 20 Georgetown 74, Wofford 59

Chris Wright had 18 points and Georgetown held off defending Southern Conference champion Wofford to reach the Charleston Classic title game.

    WOMEN

    No. 2 Baylor 78, No. 25 Michigan St. 52

Brittney Griner scored 29 points, grabbed seven rebounds and moved within one block of Baylor's career record as the Lady Bears rolled to a victory over Michigan State.

The Lady Bears (4-1) posted another lopsided home victory, this one against another ranked team, only three nights after a tough one-point loss at top-ranked Connecticut.

Griner had four blocks, pushing her career total to 248, one less than Danielle Wilson's total over three seasons with the Lady Bears.
