    Baseball

    State Babe Ruth (14)

    Tom Pezzolesi singled home Adam Goss in the bottom of the eighth inning, leading host Waterford to a 3-2 win over Stamford in a winners' bracket game Sunday. Goss doubled to lead off the inning, was sacrificed to third by Jesse Coates and scored, after two intentional walks loaded the bases.

    Stamford took a 2-1 lead on Cameron Elkins' two-run double in the fifth and Waterford tied the game in the sixth when Sam Strout scored on Coates' sacrifice fly. Waterford starter Mike McDermott allowed three hits over seven innings and Justin Pandolph pitched a perfect eighth for the win.

    Tri-County beat Ridgefield 10-6 in a losers' bracket game. Brandon Fenderson and Cory hunt each hit two-run singles in a five-run first for Tri-County. Evan Linquist had two hits and scored twice and Fenderson had three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.

    North Haven defeated Shelton 11-5 in five innings in the losers' bracket as Evan Monemiep was the winning pitcher and Adam Elhammany doubled and drove in two runs. Also, Simsbury beat Norwalk 10-8 in a winners' bracket game.

    State Section II LL (9-10)

    Waterford South erupted for 20 hits to beat Newington 23-0 in a game shortened to four innings late Saturday night. Liam Spellman had two hits, including a three-run homer, and four RBI while Dylan Bosco, Trevor Yeomans and Payton Sutman had three hits apiece for Waterford South, 2-1 in pool play.

    9-10 Division

    Lyme-Old Lyme beat Montville 10-2 as Hunter Thornton pitched three-plus innings and Eli St. Germain, Liam Milewski and Ryan Ramella had two hits each. Bryon Dewaine had two hits for Montville.

    Pawcatuck beat Mystic 9-4 as Parker Foss struck out eight in 5 innings. R.J. Parrilla had a triple, Ethan Murphy a double and Nate Miller two hits to pace Pawcatuck. Adam Gibbs and Asa Donath both had doubles for Mystic.

    Ken Turner struck out 10 batters as North Stonington shut out Groton 6-0. Nate Hopkins had two hits and Ryan Condon hit a double for North Stonington.

    11-12 Division

    Montville defeated North Stonington 8-1 as Brian Guetens and Terry Bowens each hit home runs.

    Waterford North beat Pawcatuck 4-3 as Dan Castelpoggi struck out eight batters and allowed only two hits. Kobe Haley and Castelpoggi homered for Waterford. Sam Foster had two hits for Pawcatuck.

    Ryan Tuohy and Taylor Wolfgang combined on a three-hitter as Groton beat Mystic 9-1. Hunter Nadeau, Juan Moscol and Wolfgang all homered for Groton. Trevor Bulduc hit a home run for Mystic.

    Norwich defeated Waterford South 4-2 as Connor Suplita struck out ten batters. Rayce Gendron hit a home run and Suplita a double to pace Norwich. Justin Keating hit a double for Waterford.

    East Lyme was powered by a two-run home run by Brett Bragaw in a 3-2 victory over Lyme-Old Lyme. Brett Hartmann homered for Lyme-Old Lyme.

    Softball

    State LL final (11-12)

    Fairfield won the Connecticut Little League (11-12) championship with a 6-2 victory over Mystic in Danbury. Fairfield swept the best-of-three series 2-0. Pitcher Jayden Delaporta went the distance for Mystic, the District 10 and Section II champions.
