    Local roundup: UConn edges DePaul in women's soccer

    Chicago — Danielle Schulmann scored her second goal in the 81st minute to give the University of Connecticut women's soccer team its 2-1 win over DePaul Sunday in the Big East.

    Danielle Dakin and Devin Prendergast both had assists for UConn (5-5-2, 2-2-2) and Jessica Dulski had two saves.

    DePaul is 3-9-1, 1-4-1.

    In other games:

    • Amy Schlueter and Scarlett Kirk scored for Middlebury as it edged Connecticut College, 2-1, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Jocelyn Remmert had three saves for Middlebury (6-1-1, 4-1-1). Celia Alvarez scored for the Camels (2-4-1, 1-3-1) and Kate Driscoll had the assist. Natalie Signor added eight saves.

    Men's soccer

    • Martin Drolet and Otis Pitney scored as Middlebury downed Conn College, 2-0, in the NESCAC. Conn is 5-3, 3-3.

    Field hockey

    • Lauren Greer had two goals and an assist as Middlebury beat Conn College, 3-1. Laura Sanderson scored for Conn (4-4, 1-4) and Becca Napolitano had three saves.

    • Marie Elena Bolles scored as UConn beat Yale, 1-0. Sarah Mansfield had four saves for fourth-ranked Huskies (10-1).

    High school cross country

    • Madeline Lahm placed eighth and Kelly Kong 11th as Williams placed third Saturday at the O'Connell Invitational at Cheshire Academy. Lexi Watts was 12th, Katie Watts placed 28th and Sarena Shafner finished 37th for the Blues.

    In the boys' race, Chris Ivimey was ninth as Williams took third place. Brien Bradley and Tristan Yerkes finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively, for the Blues. Also, Adam Verhoeff was 31st and Justin Shafner 44th.

    Sailing

    • Conn College's co-ed team placed fourth out of 20 teams at the Danmark Trophy Regatta on the Thames River. Hobart and William Smith, ranked eighth in the Sailing World Magazine poll, won the Regatta (153 points).

    The 12th-ranked Camels scored 210. Skipper Kevin Martland and Elizabeth Wilsterman placed sixth in the A division for Conn, and Atlantic Brugman, Grace Medley, Claire Sacco, Ryan Daly and David Rex teamed to finish fifth in the B division.
