    Local roundup: Grillo scores 100th career goal for Mitchell men's lacrosse team

    New London — Senior Adam Grillo of Waterford became the first Mitchell College men's lacrosse player to score 100 career goals Monday during a 15-4 victory over Emerson College.

    Grillo, already the program's career scoring leader, scored four times and has 101 overall.

    Freshman Jordan Cook of Groton had five goals and three assists for a career-high eight points. Chris Joy had two goals for the Mariners (4-6).

    Sophomore Shane Sullivan, another Waterford graduate, had a short-handed goal for Mitchell and sophomore goalie Peter Eshenfelder of Quaker Hill had 11 saves.

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Megan Gada scored the last of her three goals with 30 seconds remaining and Norwich Free Academy rallied past Waterford, 15-14. Kennedy Marshall tied the game for NFA (2-1) with two minutes left. Hannah Long led NFA with four goals. Julia Peay scored four goals for Waterford (1-2).

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Wes Duncan, Will McKenzie and Sam Miller each had two goals, leading Williams School past Rocky Hill (R.I.), 8-3. Charles Maynard had a goal and Jack Fader had a goal and two assists for the Blues (2-0).

    H.S. softball

    • Emily Passman went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBI and Paige Palmieri added three hits and scored three runs as East Lyme defeated Killingly 13-2. Kirsten McGinty had two triples and two RBI for the Vikings (2-0). Erica Hill struck out five and earned her second victory of the season.

    • Alyssa Hancock went 4-for-5 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored as Waterford defeated Coginchaug of Durham, 13-2. Elaina Sullivan and Christine Hadfield also homered for Waterford (2-0). Kelli Connors pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and had four hits.

    • Allie Chornoby had two hits and three RBI as Norwich Tech defeated Putnam, 24-4. Sierra Lee also had two hits and three RBI and Janellee Alvarez was the winning pitcher for the Warriors (2-0).

    • Dana Pendleton had two hits and scored two runs and Shelby Casner had a home run and scored three runs in Old Saybrook's 12-5 win over Valley Regional. Alexis Trabucchi earned the win.

    • Mary Murphy doubled twice and tripled in Grasso Tech's 28-20 loss to Windham Tech in the Constitution State Conference's East Division. Grasso is 0-2, 0-2.

    Boys' tennis

    • Chris Renaud, Nick Zuczek, Kevin Peters and Matt Suprenant won singles' matches and St. Bernard remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over Killingly in the ECC Small Division. The Saints are 2-0, 2-0.

    • Dana Aing, Shushwat Kala, Alan Luner, Benny Dung won in singles as Waterford defeated Windham, 7-0 in the ECC Medium Division. Tucker Murphy-Matt Getty, Ben Yao-Sean Ryan and James Maryeski-Nate Ashbey won in doubles for the Lancers (2-0, 2-0).

    • Morgan White, Dan Kurpaska, Alex Brault and Taavi Koiv-Haus all won their singles matches in straight sets, leading Old Lyme past Coginchaug, 7-0, in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats are 4-0 overall and in the conference. The doubles duos of Dustin Sibley-Dan Koenigs and Tyler Carnese-Stephen Williams also were victorious.

    • Mason Madison and Parker Skaats won singles matches and Lyman Memorial defeated Ledyard, 5-2. Tim Hennessey-Kyle Barrett, Ajay Gonnelli-Ian Montgomery and Chris Konow-Tony Kuang won in doubles for Lyman (2-0). Eric Sun and James Cusmano won for Ledyard (1-1).

    Girls' tennis

    • Evelyn Luner, Nisha Rajamohan, Lauren Rahr and Nora Sullivan won in singles and Waterford defeated Windham, 7-0, in the ECC Medium Division. Katie Hudson-Casey Corrado, Jessie Hudson-Katie Lewis and Nicole Mooney-Brianna Vetel won in doubles for the Lancers (1-1, 1-1).

    • Susy Kusmierski, Kenzie Gagne and Jacquie Csisar won in singles and St. Bernard edged Killingly, 4-3, in the ECC Small Division. Jessica Hester and Morgan Gagne won in doubles for the Saints (2-0, 2-0).

    • Joan Li, Sophia Shi, Sherry Yang and Melinda Li won in singles as East Lyme defeated Woodstock Academy, 6-1, in the ECC Large Division. Liz Miller-Katherine Wu and Sagune Sakya- Samantha Hart won in doubles for the Vikings (2-0, 2-0).

    College baseball

    • UConn scored six runs in the sixth inning and earned a 12-7 win over Quinnipiac. The Huskies (19-13) have won 13 of their last 15 games. Junior LJ Mazzilli and freshman Jon Testani each had a home run in the third inning to give the Huskies a 5-1 lead. Tom Verdi had a bases-loaded double to highlight the big sixth inning.
