    Local roundup: Schooners rout Danbury 9-3

    Danbury - Adam Touhey (Hartford) was 3-for-5 with three RBI as the Mystic Schooners beat the Danbury Westerners 9-3 Saturday night in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

    Byron Campbell (Maryland-Eastern Shore) homered, Touhey doubled twice, scored twice and stole two bases and Travis Boyd (Seton Hall), former Montville standout Kyle Holland (Dakota State) and former Fitch standout Anthony Turegon (CCSU) had two hits each for the Schooners (8-7).

    Anthony Galan (Brown) allowed five hits and no earned runs over seven innings for the win. Galan (2-0) struck out three with no walks.

    The Schooners lost to the Laconia Muskrats 4-3 Friday night. The game lasted nearly seven hours thanks to two rain delays and two lightning delays. Taylor Drake's grand slam in the bottom of the second gave Laconia a 4-0 lead. Alec Keller (Princeton) had three hits, Turgeon singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Keaton Flint (Sacred Heart) had two hits for Mystic.

    Tigers split doubleheader

    • Javier Azcona and Brett Harrison hit two-run homers as the Connecticut Tigers beat the Tri-City ValleyCats 5-1 in the first game of a New York-Penn League doubleheader. Tri-City (10-3) won the second game 4-0.

    Tri-City led 1-0 in the opener before Azcona's homer in the fifth inning and Harrison's homer highlighted a three-run top of the seventh. Alex Phillips (1-0) allowed five hits over five innings for the win and Dominic Ficociello scored twice for the Tigers in the first game. Raphael Rhymes and Ficociello had two hits each in the second game for the Tigers (4-8).

    American Legion Zone VI

    • New London swept a doubleheader from Jewett City, winning the opener 13-0 behind a seven RBI performance by Peter Aldrich and winning the second game 5-0.

    Izzy Davila (3-1) pitched a four-hitter in the first game with six strikeouts and one walk. The game ended on a mercy rule after five innings. Aldrich, who had three hits, capped an 11-run fifth with a grand slam. Aaron Hill had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs for New London.

    Jon Mewha (2-0) earned the win in the second game, combining with Al Johnson on a one-hitter. Tristan Hurley drove in two runs and Hill had two hits and scored twice for New London (12-3).

    SEC 16-18 Babe Ruth

    • Justin Pandolfe pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Waterford beat East Lyme 4-2 to remain in first place. Tom Pezzolesi had two hits and drove in a run and Clay McKittrick and Trey Zaharek also drove in runs for Waterford (8-1). Sam Gonski had two hits for East Lyme.

    Junior Legion

    • Trevor Bolduc pitched a three-hitter and also had three hits as New London (7-0) defeated Jewett City 9-1. Kendrick Boss also had three hits, including a double and triple, for New London while Carlos Rosario and Pieter Khoury added three hits apiece.
