    Mystic-Groton girls win New England championship with walk-off home run

    Mystic-Groton players and coaches meet Brooke Arruda, (23), at home after her 3-run home run in the bottom of the 9th defeated Connecticut District 4 in the New England championship game of the Little League Softball Junior League East Regional tournament Wednesday, August 7, 2013, in Orange. Mystic-Groton advanced to tomorrow's East Region championship game with a 9-6 win in 9-innings. Connecticut District 4 includes players from the towns of Milford, Orange and North Branford.

    Orange — Brooke Arruda hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Mystic-Groton a 9-6 win over District 4 on Wednesday afternoon to win the Little League Junior League (13-14) New England championship.

    Mystic-Groton will play for the Eastern Regional championship Thursday at the Old Tavern Road Athletic Complex, (9:30 a.m.) Its opponent has yet to be determined.

    Jayden Delaporta was the winning pitcher for Mystic-Groton.

    Mystic-Groton scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to extend the game. District 4 had scored three earlier that inning.

    Mystic-Groton lost to District 4 in the morning, 6-1, to force a winner-take-all game.
