Babson Park, Mass. - Freshman Tina Balzotti scored four goals as the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team opened its season with a 9-8 win over Babson Sunday.

Babson led 6-3 with 10:14 left in the first half. Taylor Thomas and Balzotti scored before the half, cutting the lead to 6-5, then Conn scored the first four goals of the second half to put the game away. Allisa Dalpe made 13 saves, Izzy Marx had two goals and Lowell Abbott and Meag Irvine also scored for Conn. Hannah Donegan and Charlotte McAuley had assists for Conn.

College wrestling

• Coast Guard junior All-American Nate Giorgio is heading back to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship after earning an automatic berth with his third-place finish in the Division III Northeast Regional at Wesleyan. The NCAA Division III Championships begin on March 14th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Giorgio, wrestling at 133 pounds, will be making his third straight trip to the NCAA Championship. He placed fourth at 125 pounds to earn All-America honors as a freshman before winning one of three matches last season at the NCAA's.

Giorgio, the No. 3 seed in the weight class, lost 7-6 to Rhode Island College's Silas Murray in the semifinals. Murray is the No. 2 seed and ranked ninth nationally. Giorgio then beat Brian Jennings of WPI 11-1 in the third-place match.

In other Coast Guard results, senior Luke Taylor lost twice at 174 pounds before winning the fifth-place match. And freshman Michael Palomba finished sixth at 157 pounds. The Bears finished 10th with 41.5 points.

H.S. fencing

• Quinn Duwelius of Ledyard High School won the girls' epee title at the Connecticut State Championships on Saturday. Duwelius, a junior, beat Hannah Bennett of Farmington 15-14 in the final. Duwelius also won the girls' epee at the Eattern Connecticut Conference meet on Feb. 22.

College sailing

• Conn College's co-ed team opened its season by finishing third at the eight-team Thames River Team Race, going 5-2. IG Schottlaender, Jordan Bothwick and Bryce Kopp skippered for the Camels and David Rex, Lea Bushnell, Grace Medley and Tori Allen were the crew.

College baseball

• Host Lipscomb scored 12 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull away for a 14-1 win over UConn at Nashville, Tenn. Blake Davey had two hits, including a home run, for UConn (4-5).
