Local roundup: UConn falls to North Carolina in field hockey
Newton, Mass. - Charlotte Craddock's unassisted goal in the second half broke a 1-1 tie and lifted No. 1 North Carolina to a 2-1 win over No. 2 UConn in a nonleague field hockey game played at Boston College on Sunday.
North Carolina (8-1) took a 1-0 lead at 19:18 and UConn (6-2) tied the game on Sophie Bowden's goal at 30:06. Roisin Upton assisted on Bowden's goal and Nina Klein made one save for UConn.
Road racing
• Steven DeCastro of Pawcatuck won his hometown race, taking the title at the St. Michael School 5K in a time of 20:09. Sydney Walker of Westerly won the women's division - and finished second - with a time of 22:08.
Rounding out the top 10 were Tom Belchik of Pawcatuck, (22:32), Stephen Servidio of Mystic (22:41), Michael Carroll of North Stonington (23:08), Gerah Ventresca of Westerly (23:23), Mary Banks of Pawcatuck (23:31), Colby Makin (23:32), Eric Winn (23:38) and Jeremy Ponte of Pawcatuck (23:38).
Women's soccer
• UConn was held to three shots on goal in a 3-0 loss to Cincinnati in the American Athletic Conference. Allison Saucier made four saves for UConn (8-3-1, 1-1).
Sailing
• Connecticut College finished 14th in the 18-team St. Mary's College Fall Intersectional this weekend in Maryland. Bryce Kopp and Kim Bolick were 14th in the A division with 122 poibnts and Hugh MacGillivray, Jordan Bothwick, Tori Allen and Lea Bushnell were 14th in the B division with 136.
Conn also competed in the Boston University President's Trophy Regatta, finishing 13th out of 14 teams. Emilia Clementi and Serena Cipullo were fourth in the A division with 16 points and Alexandra Maurillo and Isabelle Pieper were 14th in the B division with 38 points.
