    Local roundup: Barrs (five goals) lifts Waterford boys' lacrosse

    Waterford — Billy Barrs scored five goals Friday to lead the Waterford High School boys' lacrosse team past Stonington 9-7 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division.

    Michael Beltran and Logan Bowdish each had two goals and Tony Vocalina added four assists for the Lancers (2-0, 2-0). Colton Robinson had three goals and Jack Riordan added two goals and two assists for Stonington (1-1, 1-1).

    In other games:

    • Kyle Marsh and Patrick Caron scored goals in Montville's 16-2 loss to Bacon Academy in the ECC Small. The Indians fell to 0-2, 0-2. Pat Egan had five goals and four assists for Bacon.

    • Logan Morin had six goals and an assist to lift Norwich Free Academy over Ledyard 16-4 in the ECC Large. Kyle Ton contributed four goals and four assists, while Cam Curland added three goals for the Wildcats (1-0, 1-0). Nick Shultz had a goal and an assist for Ledyard (0-2, 0-2).

    • Eric Aarsand had four goals and three assists in East Lyme's 19-5 win over Fitch in the ECC Small. Kyle MacDonald had three goals and three assists, while Zane Smallridge and Aaron Dixson each added three goals for the Vikings (2-0, 2-0). Ryan Reuling had three goals for Fitch (1-1, 1-1). 

    H.S. girls' lacrosse

    • Ellie Phetteplace had five goals and three assists and Liz Austin had two goals and five assists as Ledyard beat NFA 16-8 in the ECC Large. Maddie Tilton had five goals and an assist for Ledyard (1-1, 1-1) and Brooke Scahill had three goals. Katie Kelly had four goals, Lulu Potter two goals and Melissa Rayment and Mackenzie Walsh both scored for NFA (0-2, 0-2).

    • Rachel Marchini scored six goals as Montville beat Griswold 17-7 in the ECC Small Division. Emily Kewer had two goals and two assists, Hailey Adcock made 18 saves, Taylor Montminy and Alyssa Tuchetta had three goals each and Karle Rewers scored twice for Montville (1-1, 1-1).

    • Kendall Roberts scored four goals and added an assist and Belle Kenny had three goals and three assists in East Lyme's 16-5 win over East Lyme in the ECC Large. Stacey Brodeur had two goals and an assist for the Vikings (2-0, 2-0). Mae Sefransky had three goals for Fitch (1-1, 1-1).

    College baseball

    • Taylor Landry scattered four hits over seven innings with eight strikeouts and two earned runs and WPI batters hit four home runs in an 11-2 rout of Coast Guard in the NEWMAC. Sean Greene had three hits, including a double and home run, with two runs and an RBI for the Engineers (15-10, 6-5) and Alex Venditti added a home run, three RBI and a run. Brendan McNeil hit an RBI triple and scored for Coast Guard (10-6, 3-4) and Ed Lazowski added an RBI.

    College softball

    • Coast Guard dropped a doubleheader to NEWMAC leader MIT, falling 5-1 and 10-6. Kelsey Gray had two hits and Morgan Kington added one hit and one RBI in game one. Emma Hvozdovich had three hits and two RBI while Jesse Richardson and Erin Lasko each added two hits in game two for the Bears (9-11, 1-7). MIT improved to 14-2, 8-0.

    H.S. baseball

    • Dan Mewha drove in the game-winning run and pitched a three-hitter at Fitch opened its season with a 3-2 win over Hall, giving Jeff Joyce a win in his first game as Falcons coach. The game was called after five innings due to fog. Mewha struck out eight with three walks and singled home Cooper Robinson in the botom of the third to snap a 2-2 tie. Jon Barstow and Robinson doubled for Fitch.

    • Old Lyme scored eight runs in the first inning on the way to a 13-1 rout of Hale-Ray in the Shoreline Conference. Winning pitcher Matt Pryzbysz allowed just two hits in five innings while Hunter Sheffield had two hits and scored three runs and Callum Sawden and Chase Hacket had two hits apiece for the Wildcats (2-0).

    • Shane Foster had three hits, an RBI and scored three runs to power Stonington past Westerly 17-15. Sam Foster earned the save by recording the final out with runners on second and third. The Bears are 2-0.

    H.S. boys' track

    • John Floyd won two events as Fitch opened its season with a pair of wins Thursday, beating Stonington 116-34 and Plainfield 96-54. Plainfield beat Stonington 77-42. Floyd won the high jump (5-10) and triple jump (38-1) and teammates Patrick Scheurer, Matt Kerst, Daelon Morgan, Tom Readett and Isaac Perez won an event each. Cameron Whalen and Justin Liang won events for Stonington.

    H.S. girls' tennis

    • Norwich Tech opened its season with a 6-1 loss to Prince Tech in a Constitution State Conference match Thursday. Kieonna Anderson won at No. 5 singles for Norwich Tech.

    H.S. boys' golf

    • NFA beat Ledyard 7-0 in an ECC Large Division match Thursday which opened the season for both teams. Jack Sullivan of NFA was the medalist with a 42 and teammates Brendan Sullivan, Noah Straub, Spencer Molkenthin and Myles Joyner also won their matches.
