    Local college notes

    • The UConn baseball team, which opened its season over the weekend in the Atlanta area and went 2-1, including a 9-7, 10 inning win over Georgia Tech on Sunday, is ranked No. 25 in the Baseball American Top 25 poll. The Huskies, who play a three-game series this weekend at Southeastern Louisiana, scored the go-ahead runs against Georgia Tech on a two-run single by Wheeler graduate Troy Stefanski in the 10th.

    • UConn's Katie Lou Samuelson has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball. The junior, who earned the weekly honor for the second time this season, averaged 26.5 points on 67.9 percent shooting (19-of-28) in a 2-0 week for the No. 1 Huskies.

    • The Conn College women's swimming team finished third in four-day New England Small Conference Athletic Conference championships, which ended Sunday at Williams College. Host Williams won its fifth straight title with 1,971 points followed by Amherst with 1,616 and Conn with 1,060.5.

    The Camels had six swimmers earn All-NESCAC honors — Mary Erb (50 breast, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay), Danielle Fergus (400 medley relay), Maddie Ford (400 medley relay), Lily Gribbel (50 fly, 50 free, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay), Juliette Lee (200 medley relay) and Maeve Wilber (50 back, 200 medley relay) — and three others set school records: Wilbur in the 400 IM (4:30.43) and 100 back (56.39), Erb in the 50 breast (29.40) and Gribbel in the 50 fly (24.83).

    • Connecticut College's Scott Mason won the 3,000-meter race during Saturday's New England Division III indoor track and field championships at Middlebury College. The junior finished in 8:24.82 while his teammate, sophomore Danny Aschale, was fourth in 8:32.13. In addition, senior Connor Trapp finished eighth in the mile (4:18.20) and junior Austin DiMartino was eighth in the heptathlon (3,825 points). All four athletes earned All-New England honors.
