Lima, Peru — New London High School graduate India Pagan became Pan American Games bronze medalist India Pagan on Saturday night as the Puerto Rican women's basketball national team defeated Colombia 66-55 to finish third in the tournament.

Pagan finished with two points, three rebounds (two offensive rebounds) and three steals in 14 minutes.

Pagan, 20, a former Class LL all-state selection who helped New London win the 2017 state girls' basketball championship and a rising junior on the women's team at Stony Brook University, is the youngest member of the team. Pagan was The Day's All-Area Girls' Basketball Player of the Year following the 2017 season.

Puerto Rico went 2-1 in Group A during the preliminary round of the tournament to advance to the elimination round, which began Friday. Puerto Rico lost to the United States in Friday's semifinals 62-59, putting them in the bronze medal game.

The U.S. faced Brazil for the gold medal late Saturday night.

Pagan's best showing in the tournament game in a 64-58 loss to Brazil during the preliminary round, finishing with a team-high seven rebounds.

A 6-foot-1 forward, Pagan will continue her stint with the Puerto Rican national team as it travels to China for the Four Nations Tournament from Aug. 11-20.

Tigers win

• Corey Joyce had two hits and drove in two runs as the Connecticut Tigers beat the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-2 in a New York-Penn League baseball game. Kona Quiggle hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Nick Quintana was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for the Tigers (26-28). Starting pitcher Carson Lance (3-2) got the win, allowing four hits and two runs over five innings. Kyle Thomas pitched three scoreless innings for a hold and Yaya Chentouf pitched a hitless ninth for his fourth save.  

In Friday's game, the Cyclones scored seven runs in the eighth inning to beat the Tigers 12-1 for Connecticut's worst loss of the season. Quiggle went 2-for-4 with the lone RBI for the Tigers.
