Waterford — Tim Jordan of Plainfield won the 35-lap SK Modified race on Saturday night at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Jordan was followed to the finish line by Bill Anderson of Wolcott. Also finishing in the top five were Eric Berndt of Cromwell, Waterford's Rob Janovic Jr. and Dana DiMatteo of Farmington.

Jake Hines of North Haven won the 30-laq SK Lite Modified race, Ray Christian of Uncasville won the 30-lap Late Model race, Bill Sylvia of Preston won the 25-lap Mini Stock race, Tyler Chapman of Mystic won the 25-lap Speedbowl Trucks race and Brody Monahan of Waterford won the 25-lap Legends race.

• The Vermont Lake Monsters beat the Norwich Sea Unicorns 8-4 in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League game. Griffin Pontbriant of Bozrah (Eastern Connecticut State) started on the mound and got a no decision. He allowed four hits and two runs over four innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Andrew Bianco (New Haven), Nick Sturino (Fairfield) and Tremayne Cobb Jr. (Hartford) each had a single and a double for Norwich (8-13).

Alex Irizarry's grand slam highlighted a six-run first inning as the Sea Unicorns beat the Brockton Rox 10-5 on Saturday night. Irizarry (Maryland) was 3-for-5 with five RBI. Drew Kron (UConn) was 3-for-5 with a double and triple, Ray Leonzi (Fairfield) drove in two runs and Tyler Kipp (Fairfield) and Bianco had two hits each for the Unicorns (8-12).

NECBL

• The Mystic Schooners lost to the Martha's Vineyard Sharks 4-2 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League on Saturday night. Former Wheeler standout Bowen Baker (Fairfield) pitched 3.1 innings of hitless and scoreless relief for the Schooners (5-3) with four strikeouts and one walk.

H.S. track & field

• Stonington's Ryan Orr, representing the Bears Track Club, finished fifth in 1:55.97 in the rising stars boys' 800 meters at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia. Teammate Josh Mooney was 22nd in the boys' javelin with a throw of 166-2 and Ryan Gruczka finished 26th in the boys' rising stars mile run at 4:22.54. 

District 10 softball (10-12)

• Salem/Montville defeated East Lyme 7-1 in the opening round of the District 10 Little League softball (10-12) tournament on Saturday as winning pitcher Abby Daniewicz had 16 strikeouts and Sophia Gibson was 3-for-3 with two triples and three RBI. Nitiya Buluso had two hits for East Lyme.

• Waterford defeated Stonington 11-1 in five innings on Saturday night as winning pitcher Gabrielle Fontaine pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts while finishing with three hits, including an inside-the-park home run. Gianna Duzant added two hits while scoring twice and Mia Majeski had a hit, run and RBI.

• Groton/Mystic beat Ledyard 11-5 on Saturday night in a five-inning, rain-shortened game. Winning pitcher Kayla Gibson struck out six. Olivia Burleigh tripled and scored three runs and Sydney Archambault tripled and scored twice for Groton/Mystic. Sadie Bordeleau of Ledyard scored three runs.

District 10 baseball (9-11)

• Christian O'Connor pitched two hitless inning with six strikeouts and doubled twice and drove in four runs as Waterford beat East Lyme 17-0 on Saturday night. Anthony Verzillo, Tyler Stark, Jax Nolda and Reilly Karasevicz had muiltiple hits for Waterford. Drew Perkins had a walk for East Lyme.
