    Local roundup: Schooners rally from six-run deficit to beat Waves in 10

    South Kingstown, R.I. — Ben Metzner (Yale) scored the go-ahead run on Addison Kopack’s (Rhode Island) fielder’s choice with one out in the top of the 10th inning as the Mystic Schooners overcame a six-run deficit to beat the Ocean State Waves on Saturday night, 8-7, in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game.

    The Schooners (23-21) trailed 7-1 after seven innings.

    Mystic’s Jackson DeJohn singled to rightfield with two outs in the top of the ninth to score Eddie Micheletti (George Washington) and Michael Bello (Auburn) and Charlie Pagliarini (Fairfield) scored on an error on that play to tie the game at 7.

    Metzner doubled to lead off the 10th inning and advanced to third on a fly ball by Stonington’s Kevin Ferrer (UConn). Kopack followed with his fielder’s choice to score Metzner.

    North Stonington’s Ken Turner (Bryant) pitched the final three innings in relief and allowed just two hits with three strikeouts, two walks and no runs to earn the win for the Schooners. Kopack had two hits, including a two-run home run, and scored and Bello and Micheletti both singled and scored twice.

    Futures Collegiate Baseball League

    • The Nashua Silver Knights beat the Norwich Sea Unicorns 12-2. Tremaine Cobb Jr. (Troy University) singled, doubled and scored a run and Hunter Yaworski (Mitchell College) and Tyler Kipp (Fairfield) drove in runs for the Sea Unicorns (26-30).

    State LL baseball (10-12)

    • Fairfield American beat District 10 champion East Lyme 9-1 to win the state championship. Host East Lyme’s only two losses in the finals came to Fairfield.
