    A group of teens react to the action on the court while waiting their turn to play in a Town vs. Teen basketball game, hosted by the Groton Public Library and Parks and Recreation, Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 at the Groton Community Center. Teen Librarian Jessa Franco said the library the last three years held a Library Staff vs. Teen kick ball game, but after the teens lost the last two they asked if they could play basketball, a game they were better at playing. Franco contacted the Parks and Recreation asking about the use of a gym. Parks and Recreation has recently started open gym times for high school and junior high school students and the two organizations decided to work together to host the event. Town employees participating in the event were members of the Groton Public Library, Parks and Recreation, Human Services, Groton Town Police Department and Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department.     Si Ross of Washington D.C. spends time Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 in the indoor skatepark at Hive Skate Shop in New London. Ross, a student at Connecticut College, said he just discovered the indoor skatepark Thursday after breaking his board while skating outdoors and found the Hive Skate Shop to purchase a new board. Friday he returned to use the indoor skatepark because it was cold outside and the skate community he met on Thursday were really nice. Ross also said that one of the good things about skating is that you can make friends quickly with people that the only thing you may have in common is skating. (Dana Jensen/The Day)

    People hit the water during the Seal Splash Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at Eastern Point Beach in Groton. The event is a fundraiser for the Mystic Aquarium's Animal Rescue Team. ARP rescues, rehabilitates and releases sick or injured marine animals from the coastline of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Fishers Island, NY and those transferred from other stranding facilities. The team as a member of the Greater Atlantic Region Stranding Network also are learning why the animals come to shore. (Dana Jensen/The Day)
