    HEAD-ON CRASH CLOSES LEDYARD ROAD

Ledyard - Two people were injured and part of Stoddards Wharf Road was closed for hours after a head-on crash there Tuesday morning.

Kevin Esposito, 17, of Gales Ferry was driving a 2007 Ford Focus westbound when he allegedly crossed the center line and hit a 2000 Honda Odyssey driven by Maria Lavin, 46, of Ledyard, police said.

Both cars sustained heavy front-end damage, and part of Route 214 was closed for nearly three hours between Avery Hill and Whalehead roads, police said.

Both of the drivers were taken to The William W. Backus Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The road was reopened about 11:45 a.m.
