    AMBULANCE ON CALL, CAR COLLIDE IN GRISWOLD

    Griswold - An ambulance transporting a patient collided with another car in the middle of an intersection Sunday afternoon in Griswold.

    The American Legion Community Ambulance was traveling west on Route 138 with its lights and sirens activated as it approached the on ramp to Interstate 395, according to an accident summary.

    When the ambulance crossed the intersection it struck a 2003 Buick sedan just before 3:30 p.m., according to police. The front of the ambulance was damaged as well as the entire right side of the Buick.

    The ambulance driver, Dana Peloso, 26, of Dayville, was taken to the hospital for a wrist injury. The patient being transported was taken to a hospital by another ambulance.

    Neither the driver nor passenger in the Buick was injured, according to police.

    The driver of the Buick, Robert Chalmers, 76, of Framingham, Mass., was cited for failure to grant the right of way to an emergency vehicle.
